LYWRPHistory of the ProjectLewisham Young Women's Resource Project (LYWRP) was set up in 1985 to run a wide range of services for girls and young women in the borough, redressing the imbalance of young women utilising youth provision. It operates as a unique service in Lewisham for girls and young women between the ages of 9 - 25. The objectives are: To support young women by offering leisure time activities, enabling them to develop their mental, physical and spiritual capabilities and thereby improve the conditions of their lives To educate train and support young women, who due to their social and economic circumstances are disadvantaged and less able to gain employment and training To provide training, educational activities, offer advice, information and work experience To keep abreast of current initiatives, research and policy developments concerning girls and young women Through the years, we have expanded the work and developed outreach work in Lewisham Schools and Youth clubs, supporting young women in work that raises their self esteem Management Committee![]() The management committee comprises of a group of women who volunteer their time to oversee the Project. Meeting every six weeks, they offer support to the workers and monitor the Project's overall development. They bring a range of skills, knowledge and commitment and their work is vital to the expansion and consolidation of the Project. Each Committee Member takes on a certain role and links up with individual Project Workers to advise and give support. |
