During the past year we have had the privilege of organising and participating in various activities and events. These have included: The Five Boroughs Conference, Website, Exchange and Summer Scheme. Our website youngvoicesatlywrp.org was launched in June 2000. The site has attracted hundreds of people to it, so our main role has been to reply back to emails and update the information on the site. It has been positive for us to see the information that we have put on the site benefit and help some people through certain things. The site is now going through a change so we can include more information on it. Each member of the peer forum group, as
well as young women from other groups within the project that
have peer training experience, took part in the Summer Scheme.
Young women aged 8 - 14 attended on a daily basis, where they
took part in a variety of activities. Our responsibility was
to look after the young women which meant we had to keep them
busy, make sure they |

LYWRP A major project that we have focussed on has been the exchange that we are organising to Ghana, this will take place in the summer of 2002. The process started with us looking at our aims, What was our purpose? Why did we want to go to Ghana? and How would we achieve our aims? As a group we discussed and wrote down our ideas, knowing that Peer Training, Identity and Citizenship were the main themes for the trip. We defined these for ourselves and came up with our purpose which is: To promote a peer education project in Ghana, look at differences and similarities in our cultures and share experiences of being a young woman. We have made contact with someone in Ghana who is interested in being our host. We are looking forward to this trip and are ecstatic that the funding for the project has been secured. From November 2000 to March 2001 we focussed on the Five Boroughs Conference. The aim was for us to facilitate workshops for young people. The theme was Confidence & Self Esteem, as these are areas that touch young people in some way or another. Lewisham was the lead Borough for the event, but we worked closely with young people from Bexley, Newham and Greenwich, a lot of hard work went into preparing and delivering the conference on the day. We met on a regular basis to plan the workshops which were media based. We split into groups and planned workshops in Photography, Drama, Dance, Poetry, Music and Creative Writing. When the day finally came it was a success, we had learnt so much during the whole process. Our confidence and self-esteem was touched as well as our communication and group work skills. We are currently working on producing a
short film on homelessness. This is an issue we feel strongly
about, and it affects all aspects of community life. Our aims
are to create a discussion with our film and to raise awareness. |
